Mainstream Housing Program
for
Persons with Disabilities
PURPOSE
OF THE MAINSTREAM PROGRAM – To provide Section 8 rental vouchers
to
enable persons with disabilities to rent affordable private housing.
ELIGIBILITY -
For a family to be eligible for the
Section 8 Mainstream
Housing Opportunities Program, one of the following must apply:
- The family whose
head, spouse, or sole member must be a person with
disabilities. A disabled person is a person who:
- Has a disability as
defined in section 223
of the Social Security Act or;
- Is determined to have
a physical, mental or emotional impairment that:
- Is expected to be of
long-continued and indefinite duration;
- Substantially impedes
his or her ability to live
independently; and
- Is of such a nature
that such ability could be improved by more
suitable housing conditions or:
- Has a developmental
disability as defined in section 102 of
the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of
Rights Act.
- Person with
disabilities does not
exclude persons who have the disease of acquired immunodeficiency
syndrome (AIDS) or any conditions arising from the etiologic agent for
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV).
- The
family is not already receiving tenant-based assistance;
and
- The family is
determined
eligible for Section 8
